The Luhmann principle can be adapted to analog note taking and digital one both. An example for the digital version is shown in the screenshot. Even if graphics can't be inserted into a plain text document, the approach is very powerful and allows to create a personal knowledge base.
The restriction of 500 chars for each section results into atomicity, which means instead very long sections, there are multiple short sections available. The atomicity ensures, that similar information are located nearby. For each newly added card the user has to search for an existing section which matches closely to the subject.
The main advantage of grouping similar information together is that the resulting text document can be read again. Its not a chaotic information collection but similar to a book all the information are grouped in chapters. In addition the Luhmann principle supports the memorization process similar to the Mindmapping method invented by Tony Buzan.
